Caring for animals
isn’t just what we do,
it’s who we are!

Following on from the statements from Boris Johnson this evening (23rd March 2020) we will continue to provide treatment for ill animals and also be able to supply their prescriptions. Farm calls for treatments necessary will also still be carried out by us as usual.

Consultations may move to initial telephone advice dependant on veterinary surgeon advice rather than face to face to further limit access into the surgery. This clampdown is currently for 3 weeks so if you have an appointment booked that could be deferred for 3 weeks then please consider doing so. The more we clamp down the quicker we stop the spread.

If you have any concerns about your pet and want advice on if they need to be seen please phone the surgery.

If you have farm calls, please telephone for a callout as normal.

If you require farm medications, please telephone in advance and you will be directed as to when to come.

We will be here for your animals and their care as much as we can as we cannot see emergency care of animals being blocked in this country. Please consider your options when coming to the surgery.

If you are requiring a prescription dispensing please order it and then we will phone you when it is ready to arrange collection. Again this will be organised at a safe distance. We are allowing up to 3 months supply on all prescriptions apart from restricted drugs that are limited to 30 days legally.

Repeat prescription check intervals are being extended from 6 months based on individual cases and vets discretion as to urgency care provision and clinical signs etc.

Take care one and all and please stay safe.

Welcome to Old Stone Vets

We are a truly mixed veterinary practice in the North Pennines. This means that all of our vets are able to examine and treat pretty much all species of animal. And on top of that, we do it 24hrs a day. Our caseload varies from a rabbit with overgrown teeth, to sick puppies, from a cow calving at midnight, to a lamb with a broken leg. We cover it all as a first opinion GP veterinary practice. This is what we do, and we love it.

What we do

Small Animals
Small Animals
All of our vets are involved in the small animal consultations and operations at Old Stone Vets. We hold consultations every morning and evening in all 3 branches Alston, Stanhope & Allendale.
Farm Animals
Farm Animals
Within our area we have a wide range of farm animal species to treat. Cows, sheep, alpacas, pigs and goats would be the main ones. We cater for all emergency and routine procedures.
Equine
Equine
We treat all types and sizes of horses within the practice. From minature shetlands to massive 18hh draft animals. All of our vets are capable of first opinion equine veterinary service.
Game Birds
Game Birds
Within our area, game bird work at certain times of the year allows us to assist the local gamekeepers and estate managers in the welfare and disease monitoring and prevention within their young flocks.
