Karl (“Old Spice”) is heavily involved in the tea making department of Old Stone Vets. It’s a difficult task trying to keep up with the latest news from Twinnings & Nescafe but he keeps trying. Everyone else at the practice reckons he definately is “very trying!”.

Karl has 2 certificates to his name. Namely: (1). Rally driving course at Brands Hatch and (2). Certificate of swimming achievement when he was 11years old.

Karl has been known to perform veterinary tasks from time to time, and enjoys the mix of genuine mixed practice vet work. In spare time, he likes red wine, beer & watching rugby, and tipping up the fell on a quad bike.

Rachel (“Mommy Spice”) originally from the North East, qualified from Edinburgh (Dick) Vet School in 1997. Rachel has the unenviable task of being married to Karl. Rachel is really keen on the equine side of the practice but is happy tackling any species.

Rachel has recently achieved a masters degree from the prestigious Old Stone Vets Studies Group in “learning to love your aga” class. A lot of time and effort has gone into this intense coursework, and only a few dinners have been cremated.

Rachel’s ideal cup of tea involves waving a teabag in the general direction of the cup and top it up with plenty of milk.

Chelsea (“Piano Spice”) qualified from Liverpool University in 2011 and couldn’t wait to start working as a vet so came to Old Stone Vets within hours of her final exams. Originally from Liverpool Chelsea moved to Newcastleton in the borders while in her teens. Chelsea is starting to overcome the debilitating condition of being left handed (“special”). None of our “normal” instruments were to Chelsea’s liking as they’re all right handed (“awkward”)

Chelsea enjoys the different challenges of mixed practice and it’s variety of cases but has developed a particular liking for off roading in her “monster truck”, but make sure there’s lots of room in farmyards for her to do a 22 point turn! The latest addition to Chelsea’s family is “Alfie” the terror…. sorry …. terrier who keeps Chelsea entertained when the pub is shut.
After careful deliberation Chelsea has decided to dedicate her field of expertise to a certificate in “How to light the fire without the use of petrol!” and is doing very well in her studies so far, with only a singed eyebrow to show for her efforts so far.

Katherine (“Posh Spice”) qualified from Edinburgh University in 2009.

Katherine returned from maternity leave in January 2012 with the arrival of her baby daughter, Eve in July 2011. Katherine is finding even more time to study/practice at home for her extra curricular certificate in keeping with practice policy. She’s trying to find a course in “handbag and shoe appreciation” and is looking for eventual professorship in her chosen subject. We wish Katherine every success in her studies.

Katherine is involved in all aspects of the veterinary mixed practice work and is known to frequently discuss new veterinary techniques & practices with local farmers in a certain drinking establishment within stumbling distance of home although now spends more time with nappies & bottles than local farmers but we’re assured she’ll be back!
