Dentistry

Dentistry is an important part of the health care of your horse. Your horse’s teeth should be examined at least every year. In some individuals, particular with those with dental abnormalities, dental work may be required more frequently.
As Qualified Veterinary Surgeons we are able to provide sedation, pain relief and local anaesthesia as required during dental work, allowing a more thorough result and less pain and stress to your horse. This can also be safer for the horse, Veterinary Surgeon and the handler!
What are the signs of Dental problems in my horse?
Signs of dental problems include:
- dropping food (quidding)
- weight loss
- bad odour
- biting problems or evasion
- head tilt or shaking
- facial swelling/ nasal discharge
- Colic or choke
We have all the equipment necessary to perform most dental work including mobile stocks, extraction equipment and wolf tooth operations. We can also perform general anaesthetics for more difficult cases should the need arise and have good working relations with referral centres in the region for more difficult complex cases.
We also have mobile digital x-ray’s which allow us to visit you in your horse’s own environment and take x-rays of teeth, head or whatever and digitally develop at the time so you can see the x-rays yourself and we get instant diagnosis.
